Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, 2009- Women will learn and laugh with the new, I Am A Woman and I Know Football, TM  The Ten Secret Rules to Female Football Success.

Why Is This DVD Different, Interesting, and Unique?

Every goofy prop and silly line has an educational purpose. Women from all ages, backgrounds and different parts of the country collaborated with football players, coaches, and video producers to develop teaching methods that help all women learn the game. They made learning fun and never talked down to students.

It’s Funny, But Is It Credible and Easy to Understand?

Some of these female instructors knew football and others had limited knowledge. They approached the project from a woman’s perspective and all asked questions that beginners would want answered. These women were instrumental in crafting lessons that are fun, visual, and simple. Football players, experts, and journalists reviewed the material to verify accuracy and understanding.

Some Examples Of This Unique, Visual Teaching Style By Our Female Instructors

They stage a dance, “Getting Downs” to show how the offense keeps the ball.

They play tug of war (with grunts, groans and shouts) to teach about field position.

They eat really bad food to demonstrate the aftertaste of turnovers on fumbles.

They misbehave to show how players are required by the rules to share the ball.

Our football players go all out on an Easter Egg Hunt to find the elusive Yellow Line.

Our unofficial official dresses up and dresses down to explain the uniform code on the field.

Testimonials
One former cheerleader said, “I wish they had something like this when I was in school. The review segments were great. It helped me remember.”

Kutztown University Football Coach Raymond Monica aid, “I liked it, it was really good.

One woman who thought she knew most everything about the game said, “I actually learned several new things in this DVD. It was funny too.”

Who Benefits From This?

This family friendly DVD targets girls and women of all ages. All girls can learn from this-Cheerleaders, geeks, bandos, moms, athletes, non-athletes, and booster clubs, anyone who wants to learn the game.

Why Do This? Aren’t There Other Football Teaching Books And DVDs Available?

“My daughters inspired this project,” said creator Ron Petrovich.  “They attend a football school and wanted to know more. During my research, I discovered a big appetite by other girls and women who wanted to learn about football. The women I talked with said traditional football books and DVDs baffled them, so we set out to be different with humor, strong visuals, education, and entertainment. ”

The Ventura Black Widows love football and they want other women to learn to love and know football. This is why they have teamed up with I Am A Woman And I Know Football, an organization that has one
goal- Make Learning Football Fun for Women.

Women's Tackle football is one of the fastest growing sports in the
United States. Teachers, lawyers, students, and women who never knew about the sport are now joining in to play the sport. Some of these women never learned the rules until recently because nobody taught them or they were too intimidated.

Today, there are more than 130 women’s tackle teams across this country, Canada, Japan and Europe.  These women, who play in full pads and utilize NFL rules, participate in several leagues, including the Women’s Football Alliance, http://www.wfafootball.com,Independent Women’s Football League, http://www.iwflsports.com, and Women’s Spring Football League, http://www.WSFLwomen.com.

Ahmad Newton, of California, owner of the Black Widows
http://www.blackwidowsfootball.com jumped into this sport. He says, "There is a bright future for women's football and it's exciting to watch women play so hard."  Ahmad said it's about fun and education right now. "If more women can learn the game, they'll enjoy our team, our league and any other type of football. Football is the number one sport, so, whatever we can do to teach women, we all win."  He adds that, "The I Am A Woman and I Know Football lessons are fun and a simple way to learn the basics."  He also runs another women's team, the Utah Frost, an indoor/arena women's football club www.utahfrost.com

The creator of I Am A Woman And I Know Football,
http://iamawomanandiknowfootball.com, Ron Petrovich, says, "Ahmad and his team have such dedication for the game and it's a privilege to partner with them on this mission."   I Am A Woman And I Know Football breaks down learning into 10 Secret Rules in which women will learn about all facets of the game. Experts who have reviewed this say it's one of the best teaching videos they have ever seen." The former television producer  adds, "No matter what your background in sports is, "You will learn and have fun with our program." In this partnership, The DVDs, I Am A Woman And I Know Football will be sold at games, with a portion of profits being donated
to local charity.

A desire to help his daughters better understand football, creator Ron Petrovich, of Upper Macungie Township, was inspired to create the DVD “I Am a Woman and I Know Football.”

Petrovich said the DVD is meant to be entertaining, educational and fun, teaching football to girls and women.

“Just to make the world a better place and to help women learn about football,” he said.

His college-aged daughters, Mantha and Alexis, who attend Penn State, wanted to learn football.

“During our research, we discovered that many women seek a better understanding about rules and basics,” he said. “These women who wanted to know included moms, grandmothers, women who never played sports, cheerleaders and former cheerleaders.”

Petrovich is a former television producer and news manager. He works for Medstar Television based out of Allentown, selling medical stories to TV stations and Internet Web sites. He conducted this project in his spare time.

“Our goal at I Am A Woman and I Know Football is to teach women about football. We call our DVD The 10 Secret Rules to Female Football Success, but there are no secrets. We just like to poke fun of goofy, self-help gurus,” stated the Web site,
http://iamawomanandiknowfootball.com.

More than a dozen women of all ages and backgrounds collaborated with award-winning television producers, photographers, editors, actresses, coaches and players to deliver a DVD that entertains and teaches, said Petrovich.

Petrovich really enjoys watching football. “I like that it’s so easy to watch. It’s a great TV sport. I like the scheming and the hitting,” he said.

Petrovich often attends KU football games. He thinks the quality of play is really good.

“I think that for this size school there’s a lot of school spirit,” he said. “I like to be close to the action.”

Petrovich contacted Coach Monica in spring 2007.

“I took a chance and everyone was super nice and accommodating,” he said.

By fall 2008 the project began with filming at the Kutztown University stadium, home of the Golden Bears.

KU players Shane Kadlac, Keith Massey, Jason Henshaw, Miles Scott, Mike Dietrich, Ryan Kemmerer, Jared Haas, Craig Croman, Andre Fisher, Sam McKellar, and Mike Clark demonstrated plays and real game situations.

According to Petrovich, KU Athletic Director Greg Bamberger, Coordinator of Media and Information Josh Leiboff and Coach Raymond Monica “generously delivered credibility.”

Associate Professor Leonard J. Barish was instrumental in securing actual game footage for this DVD.

Women were the instructors, local actors who answered questions, explained elements of the game step-by-step in simple and fun ways, and demonstrated lessons.

Civic Theater actress Kate Oswalt served as an instructor and recruited Renee Lorenzetti, Traci L. Ceschin, Patricia Welle, Melissa Haas, Will Morris and Starlitt Navarro. Also, actress Courtney Mitchell joined the crew from DeSales University’s theater program.

After many revisions and editing over a two-year period, the video has been released in time for the football season. The DVD can be purchased online via or at the Kutztown University Bookstore.

“It’s been fun,” he said about the project.

His favorite part of the process was being creative and working with everyone. Petrovich was surprised at how much fun he had working with the players, the instructors and everyone else who had a hand in this DVD.
